HUMANITARIAN PROJECTS ~ |

As the extent of the devastation from Hurricane Katrina became evident in early September 2005, Argos Foundation partner and contributor Science Systems & Applications, Inc., sought to organize an on-site relief mission to the affected region. Working with AFI and a number of other corporate partners and contributors, a relief convoy departed the Washington, D.C. area on the 10th of September 2005, bound for Linton, Mississippi. In addition to generators, chainsaws, and other equipment and relief supplies, the team was equipped with GPS navigational units and a number of satellite telephones. Upon arrival in Linton, the team will establish a communications center for themselves and other relief crews, and will work closely with a bulldozer crew from Ohio to clear the areas roads. Additionally, the team will engage in search efforts to identify and ascertain the condition of elderly residents. Linton is one of the hardest-hit inland areas in the path of Hurricane Katrina. The Argos Foundation is assisting the mission by providing financial and administrative support for the work-group, and by contacting other parties in the space and satellite communications industry to solicit financial and in-kind support for the mission, as well as encouraging our partners to enable members of their staff to support the mission. If you would like to make a contribution to this effort, we can accept credit card donations of cash in any amount; also, we can assist in organizing in-kind support for the mission as well. You may call: Claire Duvall at +1.301.341.1814 in order to provide your credit card number over the telephone (MC/Visa/AmEx); or, click here to download a form which you can complete and fax to us at: +1.301.341.2130. Unfortunately, we are not in a position at this time to accept an on-line credit card donation. All donations will receive an acknowledgement letter from the Foundation. 100% of donated funds will go to support the relief mission; the Argos Foundation will not retain any administrative or processing fee, or any “percentage” of such funds. Any in-kind materials will be left by the team on-site in Mississippi, with either another on-site relief organization, school, or Government agency, as appropriate, following the end of the relief mission.
