CENTER FOR INTERMODAL TRANSPORTATION
|
The Center for Intermodal Transportation Safety & Security is an operating R&D center of Florida Atlantic University, and is based at the FAU MacArthur Campus in Jupiter, Florida. The Argos Foundation is an affiliated member of CITSS, working to bring the capabilities of space-based and wireless technologies to the Center’s research programs, and to serve as one means of Government / Industry / Academic cooperation. Under the direction of Dr. Clifford R. Bragdon, AICP, the Center has received funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation, as well as support from the State of Florida. CITSS has the responsibility of bringing new technologies to bear inorder to enhance the security of Florida’s transportation infrastructure. Nearly 20% of all goods and commodities imported into the United States enter through Florida’s seaports and airports, traveling further into the country via Interstate highway, rail, and air cargo. Florida also boasts the Nation’s largest passenger cruise port – the Port of Miami – with a number of other ports growing rapidly in this arena. The heart of the research program at CITSS is the digital simulation and modeling technologies developed by Dr. Bragdon and his team, whose research is conducted in the DREAMlab’s temporary spaces at the university. Working with the Argos Foundation, CITSS seeks to develop and construct a permanent facility in Jupiter, which will serve as an R&D center, and as a focal point for live and satellite-delivered education and training programs associated with transportation security. Florida Atlantic University is an operating unit of the State University System of Florida, based in Boca Raton, with other campuses elsewhere in South Florida. CITSS is operated under the auspices of FAU’s Division of Research & Graduate Studies. Leading the Argos Foundation’s involvement with CITSS is Mr. Stephen Morgan, AFI President. (AFI is an industry partner of CITSS, and exerts no operational control over the Center’s budget or day-to-day activities.) For further information, please contact AFI, or CITSS directly.
